  • Technique F :  Use of C rucible

    Section one:  Purpose of Technique

This technique describes how to use a laboratory crucible to safely oestrus a sample.

Section two : Operations of C rucible

There are several types of crucibles that tin can be used for heating up materials.  Possible types of crucibles are alumina, ceramic and porcelain. Most labs require the apply of porcelain crucibles. Porcelain crucibles are glazed on the outside and inside, except at that place is usually no coat on the bottom. Crucibles are meant to withstand high temperatures of 1020-1050oC.  Crucibles can rut up a variety of materials similar metals (cooper, cobalt, etc.), hydrates and glass.

    1. Use crucible tongs to pick-up crucibles and forestall fingerprints.

    1. Put crucible on a dirt triangle that has been placed over an fe band attached to a stand and placed to a higher place a Bunsen burner.

    1. Make sure that the crucible is directly in the center of clay triangle to foreclose it from falling over.

    1. After the crucible is in place, turn on the Bunsen burner flame (CAU TION: Do Not utilize immediate high heat on the crucible) and begin heating.

    Section 3 : Maintenance  of C rucible

The proper way to fix the crucible and chapeau is to wash it with laboratory waterJust . Use a gentle flame and rut the crucible for two minutes or until water is evaporated. This will allow the crucible time to be completely water free prior to more intense heating.

Place the clean crucible and lid on the wire gauze.D o nonplace the clean crucible or chapeau on the countertop. Clean information technology again if it is placed on the countertop.

Section 4 : Safety Precautions of C rucible

    • DO  Non  USE broken or severely damaged crucibles. Thermal shock can break the crucibles if in that location are already defects in the crucible.

    • Exercise  NOT overheat the crucible. It  may cause materials to spatter or to attach the bottom

    • Employ Merely crucible tongs to put on the hat when the crucible is over a flame.

    • Practice Notbear on a hot crucible with your hands. It can burn down your hands.

    • NEVER put down a hot crucible has been heated on the counter.Utilizea wire gauze.

    • NEVER directly pick-upwardly the crucible after information technology has been heated up. Allow the crucible to cool down first before using crucible tongs.

    • Do  NOT stand up near the crucible, particularly when material is heating up. Make sure to use the lid before turning upwards the flame on the material, as youDo  NOT want the material to become ejected toward you.

    • DO Nonallow common cold water to interact with the hot water within the crucible, it can crusade thermal daze.

    • DO Nonallow cold h2o to bear on the crucible after it has been heated up. It can cause mechanical shock of the crucible.

    Exercise's

Douse crucible tongs to pick up and put downwardly the crucible and hat on the wire rack.

Exerciseuse crucible tongs to place the hat on the heated crucible.

Do place the lid and crucible subsequently cleaning onto the wire gauzea nd when the crucible and lid are hot.

    Practise  not's

Do  not place the crucible and the lid on the counter atANYTIME during the cleaning and experiment.

Exercise  not identify the crucible on its side. Make certain information technology is centered on the clay triangle.
